Procol Harum Fan Club Event – 9 June 2026

I recently had the privilege of attending a special Procol Harum fan gathering at The White House in Guildford, courtesy of Gary Brooker’s widow, Franky Brooker.

What made the occasion particularly memorable was reconnecting with so many familiar faces from across the band’s remarkable journey. Among the intimate group of around 30 guests were Stefano Ciccioriccio, who organised the event and whom I first met at a Procol Harum performance in Rome in 2000, long-time supporter Jens Anders, merchandise manager Mark Fent, production crew member John Magner, and Procol Harum musicians Mark Brzezicki and Josh Phillips.

It was also a pleasure to spend time with Roland Clare, whose dedication to Procol Harum and encyclopaedic knowledge of the band’s history have made him a central figure within its unique fan community. Having supported the band since 1966, Roland remains one of its most passionate advocates.

The gathering served as a reminder of Procol Harum’s extraordinary international appeal. The band’s loyal following extends far beyond the UK, with fans regularly travelling from across Europe, Australia, New Zealand and beyond to attend special events. I witnessed this first-hand while promoting Procol Harum concerts in Lewisham and Croydon, as well as the unforgettable performance with the Hallé Orchestra at Bridgewater Hall.

Gary Brooker was a truly exceptional artist and individual. The warmth, friendship and shared passion evident throughout the gathering reflected not only the enduring legacy of Procol Harum’s music, but also the profound impact Gary had on those who knew him and the countless fans who continue to celebrate his work around the world.
